fix(services): a turned WFS answer drops its boxes; a list of features is left as it came (#1071 follow-ups) - #1193
The two follow-ups promised on #1071, answering the bot's points after the merge:
Boxes dropped with the turn. When fix_axes turns a latitude-first answer round, a bbox written in the old order stayed, on the answer and on its features and geometries. Nothing in RustGIS reads it now (a layer's extent comes from its geometries), but a box saying the opposite of the positions is wrong, and anything reading the layer's GeoJSON later would get it. bbox is optional in GeoJSON (RFC 7946 §5), so it is dropped along with crs: on the answer, on each feature, and on each geometry, those inside a GeometryCollection too. A property named bbox is left alone.
A list of features is left as it came. A top-level JSON array isn't a GeoJSON answer. fix_axes judged its positions and then returned Some with the same bytes, since nothing in it matched; it now returns None, as it says for an answer it doesn't turn. What the layer gets is the same as before.
Testing
rustgis-data: axes_judged_against_the_layer_bounds now checks a collection with a box on the answer, a feature, a GeometryCollection and a geometry inside it (all dropped, the bbox property kept, the positions turned round), a lone feature with a box (dropped), and a top-level array of features (None).
cargo xtask ci on Windows with RUSTGIS_LANGUAGE=en (cargo fmt --all --check, cargo clippy --workspace --all-targets -- -D warnings, cargo test --workspace, layers), on main at bd9cb7c1, all passing.
When latitude-first coordinates are reordered in a GeoJSON object, bounding boxes are removed from the top-level object, features, and visited geometries. Bounding boxes stored in feature properties are preserved.
Top-level feature arrays are left unchanged and are not processed for coordinate reordering or bounding-box removal.
…s is left as it came
Follow-ups promised on opengeos#1071. When fix_axes turns a latitude-first
answer round, a bbox written in the old order stayed on the answer, its
features and geometries; it is optional (RFC 7946 section 5), so it is
dropped with crs. A top-level JSON array isn't a GeoJSON answer: it was
judged and given back unchanged as Some; it now gives None.

Walkthrough
fix_axes now requires a GeoJSON object and returns None for top-level arrays. During coordinate correction, it removes bounding boxes from the answer, features, and visited geometries. Tests verify these changes and confirm that properties.bbox remains unchanged.

Summary
Axis correction and validation crates/data/src/ogc.rs
fix_axes removes bounding boxes from the answer and features, and swap_geometry removes them from visited geometries. Tests check these removals, preserve properties.bbox, and verify that top-level arrays return None.
opengeos/RustGIS#1071: Introduced the bounds-based fix_axes(bytes, bounds) contract, which this change extends.

Explanation
The title names the two changes in the PR: dropping GeoJSON bbox fields when fix_axes turns a WFS answer, and returning None for a top-level feature list. Both appear in the raw summary and objectives. The title is long (108 characters) and uses a parenthetical issue reference, but it is specific and on topic.
Full details: Description check
Explanation
The description follows the template's Summary and Testing sections. It explains both follow-ups, the RFC 7946 basis for dropping bbox, and the property named bbox that is kept. It lists the updated test and the CI commands run. The UI evidence section is omitted, which is correct because the change has no visible UI. The Related issue section is missing; the description refers to #1071 only in prose and does not use a 'Closes' or 'Part of' line.
Resolution
Optionally add a 'Related issue' section (for example, 'Part of #1071') so the link to the follow-up target is machine-readable and matches the template.

I reviewed the one changed file, crates/data/src/ogc.rs, against its callers and the test module. I found no bugs, security problems, or performance issues. The change is small and correct as far as I can verify by reading, since I could not build or run the tests here.
Bugs
None found. Checked: a turned answer drops bbox at the root, on each feature, and on each geometry (including nested GeometryCollection members). Unturned answers keep their boxes. bbox is never read from GeoJSON answers in ogc.rs. A property named bbox is untouched because removal happens on the object level only. The new as_object_mut()? returns None for a top-level array, and the output bytes are unchanged, since that array was never modified. Members walks arrays, so the new test actually reaches the new line. Confidence: high.
Security
None found. The change only removes keys and does no new parsing or indexing. Confidence: high.
Performance
None found. Each removal is a single map operation. Confidence: high.
Quality
Inline comment posted at crates/data/src/ogc.rs:3237: the loop variable f is shadowed inside the if let, which is harder to read. Suggested rename to obj. Confidence: high, nit.
The remove("bbox") call now appears in three places (root in fix_axes, the FeatureCollection loop, and swap_geometry). A small helper would tie them together. Nit, confidence: medium.
Minor: swap_geometry removes bbox after its depth > 8 return, so a geometry nested deeper than 8 keeps its box. Its coordinates are also left unswapped at that depth, so this is consistent and unlikely to matter. Confidence: medium.
Design note: dropping bbox is valid under RFC 7946 §5, which makes it optional. Rewriting it in lon/lat order would keep the information instead. The PR's choice is defensible. Confidence: low, a question rather than a defect.
AGENTS.md
No unwrap, expect, panic, or unsafe in non-test code. The new test lines use unwrap, matching the existing tests in that module. No wasm, layering, i18n, or asset concerns apply, since only crates/data changed. Confidence: high.

Assert the corrected coordinates in the boxed fixture.
The boxed case checks only that bbox is removed. It does not check that the LineString coordinates inside it are turned round. If a change skipped the coordinate swap for geometries with a bbox, this test would still pass, and no other test would catch it. Add an assertion for the swapped coordinates after the existing properties/bbox check.

only still-valid issues, skip the rest with a brief reason, keep changes
minimal, and validate.
Review comment at @crates/data/src/ogc.rs around lines 3596 - 3598:
Extend the boxed-fixture assertions in the test around `fix_axes` to verify that
the LineString coordinates at `/features/0/geometry/geometries/0/coordinates`
are swapped to the expected order. Keep the existing bbox-removal and
`properties/bbox` assertions unchanged.

I read the diff against crates/data/src/ogc.rs and its caller features_answer in crates/engine/src/cmd/service.rs. I could not compile or run the tests here (no shell), so the checks below are by reading only.
Bugs
None found in the changed lines. The new bbox removals run only on the turned branch, where the positions are already swapped, so no stale box is left in the wrong order. fix_axes(...).unwrap_or(bytes) in features_answer means the top-level-array change to None returns the same bytes as before. Confidence: high.
Low-confidence, pre-existing (not from this PR): an object with no type but a features array is judged from its positions and returned as Some. Its features are never swapped, though crs is already removed there, and this PR now also removes its bbox. The _ arm at crates/data/src/ogc.rs:3250 only turns top-level coordinates. Confidence: medium.
Security
None. No new input handling, and the existing depth limits still apply.
Performance
None worth raising. The extra removals are constant-time per object.
Quality
Test gap: the lone-Feature top-level bbox removal (crates/data/src/ogc.rs:3233) is not exercised, because the fixture carries no box. Inline comment posted with a suggestion. Confidence: high.
Nit: bbox is removed in three places (:3233, :3238, :3201). A small helper would state the rule once. Inline comment posted. Confidence: high.
AGENTS.md
Compliant. Non-test code adds no unwrap, expect, or indexing. The new as_object_mut()? follows the existing style. The test unwraps match the module's existing tests.
Change size
Compared: the whole PR against main (merge base bd9cb7c to PR head 85bbb17).
No definite bugs found. The bbox removal runs on the top-level answer, on each feature, and on each geometry (including those inside a GeometryCollection). The early as_object_mut()? return for a top-level array gives the same bytes to the caller as before, because features_answer falls back to the original bytes. The new tests exercise the changed paths: the listed case reaches the as_object_mut()? return because positions_extent accepts top-level arrays through visit_seq. (High confidence.)
A box on a geometry nested more than 8 levels deep survives in the old axis order, because the bbox removal comes after the depth > 8 return. Inline comment posted. (Low confidence, about 40%; practically unreachable.)
Security
None. The change only removes optional JSON members and touches no new input paths. It adds no unwrap, expect or unsafe in non-test code. (High confidence.)
Performance
None of note. The extra removals are constant-time map operations on a value that is already deserialized.
Quality
Nit: the bbox removal now appears in three places (top level, feature loop, swap_geometry). A small drop_bbox(&mut Value) helper would make the intent clearer. (Medium confidence it's worth doing.)
Design note, not a defect: a top-level array of features judged latitude-first is still returned unturned, so the layer gets the wrong order. The PR states this is intended and unchanged from before. If arrays can ever be real service answers, this is a gap to revisit. (Low confidence it matters in practice.)
AGENTS.md
Compliant. No non-test panics, the tests keep the existing pattern, no new dependencies, and the change stays in the data crate.
Checked: fix_axes and its callers (crates/engine/src/cmd/service.rs:228), positions_extent/Members for the array and depth behaviour, and the updated tests at ogc.rs:3590–3638.
