Summary

Add From Service lists a service's layers. A layer already on the active map now shows Remove where it would show Add, and the row removes it with the existing undoable command (layer.remove, or map.removeTiles for a tile layer). Once it is gone the row shows Add again.

A layer is recognised by the address it was added from, never by its title, so a layer of your own or of another service with the same name is left alone:

  • Features keep the listing's feature URL. Asking for only the map's area appends its box to that address, and still matches.
  • Coverages keep their GetCoverage request and are told apart by COVERAGEID (WCS 1.0's COVERAGE).
  • Tiles (WMS, WMTS, vector tiles, style) match their template, including a {Time} template filled to a date, and an OGC API layer's advertised tileset template. The advertised template is claimed only for a tile layer that starts with that row's own tile matrix set: two tile matrix sets of one collection sharing a list are told apart, and a hand-added tile in another tile set under that list is left alone.
  • A saved project keeps a web address without its keys or tokens; that keyless form still matches, so a reopened project still shows Remove.

Testing

  • cargo fmt --all -- --check
  • cargo clippy --workspace --all-targets -- -D warnings
  • cargo xtask layers
  • cargo test -p rustgis-engine --lib — 567 passed, 5 ignored, including hostile_params_never_panic
  • cargo test -p rustgis-ui-egui --lib dialogs::tests::
  • cargo test -p rustgis-ui-egui --test smoke add_service
  • cargo test --workspace -q -- --skip cache_unix_foreign_owned_roots_are_rejected

New tests cover: exact and keyless (reopened project) source matching; dated tile templates; coverage ids; tileset claiming (two tile matrix sets of one collection sharing a list, and a hand-added tile in another tile set left alone); a same-titled layer from another source, including "Roads 2 Lanes"; a service address kept as the layer's source with Copy Path redacting it; and four kittest flows (tile, feature and coverage Remove, and a grouped collection saying it is on the map).

cargo xtask ci reaches the same result; its only failure is rustgis-data's cache_unix_foreign_owned_roots_are_rejected, which expects / not to be writable, which does not hold in this sandbox. That test is skipped above and the data crate is untouched by this change.

UI evidence

The change is one row's button switching between Add and Remove; there is no layout change, so no screenshot. The kittest tests render the dialog and check that Add is hidden when the layer is on the map, click Remove, and check the layer is gone and Add is back. The feature and coverage tests add the layer under a different name from the listed title, so only the address match can make them pass.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • New Features
    • Add From Service identifies layers already on the map and offers a removal option for matching items. Grouped OGC API feature rows indicate when they’re already on the map.
    • Imported service layers retain their source addresses. The addresses are shown without sensitive keys or tokens, and service layers can be grouped by host in the Data Source view.
  • Documentation
    • Updated the service-format guide with details on import status, adding and removing layers, and viewing or copying source addresses.

Walkthrough

Service imports now retain source addresses, which the engine uses to match service listings to map layers. The Add From Service dialog caches those matches and offers removal actions for eligible rows. Source addresses are redacted when copied or displayed.

Changes: Service Layer Removal

crates/engine/src/cmd/clipboard.rs, crates/engine/src/cmd/layer.rs, crates/engine/src/cmd/service.rs, crates/engine/src/tests.rs, crates/ui-egui/src/panes.rs, docs/user-guide/data-formats.md, crates/engine/Cargo.toml
Service feature and coverage imports record their request addresses on resulting layers. Copy Path and layer details redact source addresses. The Data Source view groups service rasters by address. Tests and the guide cover source retention, redaction, grouping, and display behavior.
Match service offers to map layers
crates/engine/src/cmd/mod.rs, crates/engine/src/cmd/service_added.rs
The engine matches service offers to map layers by source address or tile template. Feature matches allow recognized area-query parameters. Coverage matches also check coverage IDs. OGC API rows claim eligible tiles only when the template match is unambiguous.
Cache matches and dispatch row actions
crates/ui-egui/src/lib.rs, crates/ui-egui/src/dialogs.rs
The dialog caches matching rows by session revision and filter, up to 500 matches. Matched rows offer Remove; unmatched rows offer Add. Matched grouped OGC API feature rows show “On the map” without an individual action. Removal reports success or error and invalidates the map. UI tests cover these states.

Bugs

  • Feature-layer title fallback can remove a layer the listing never added (high confidence). added_service_item falls back to layer.name.eq_ignore_ascii_case(title) even when the offer has a URL that matches nothing on the map. A user's own "Roads" layer then shows Remove for an unrelated WFS listing, and clicking it deletes that layer. Inline comment on dialogs.rs:833.
  • Tile-layer title fallback has the same problem (medium-high). The "address first" ordering does not stop the title fallback from matching another service's layer with the same title. Inline comment on dialogs.rs:825.
  • Dated-name matching is too loose (medium). Any digit after title counts, so "Roads 2 Lanes" matches "Roads". Inline comment on dialogs.rs:806.

Security

  • No issues found. Input is read through get() and as_str, with no unwrap, expect or indexing in non-test code, and the remove path goes through existing commands.

Performance

  • Low concern (low confidence). added_service_item scans every tile and layer for each visible row on every frame. This is fine at current sizes, but it could be a single pass per listing. Noted on dialogs.rs:821.

Quality

  • Nit: the address closure is duplicated in both match arms and can be a single let above the match. Inline comment on dialogs.rs:821.
  • Tests cover the feature-layer match and the kittest Add/Remove flow. They do not cover the false-positive cases above (a same-titled layer from another source, or "Roads 2 Lanes"). Adding those cases would make the fix verifiable.

AGENTS.md

  • Conforms: strings go through tl! and i18n::fmt, and the remove path uses existing undoable commands rather than a dialog-side mutation. rustfmt.toml sets max_width = 140, and the longest new lines fit.
  • Not run here: no build, test or clippy run, since this review had only read access.

Nitpick Cover the source-URL match in the feature test.

2304-2313: Trivial · Maintainability & Code Quality · Quick win

Cover the source-URL match in the feature test.

The test a_service_features_layer_is_known_once_added matches by title only. Deleting the dataset.source comparison in added_service_item would still pass it. Add a case with a custom layer name (set through layer.rename) and a dataset.source equal to the offer URL, then assert Layer(id).

Code review

No correctness bugs found. I read the full diff and checked the code it depends on: sources::redact, project save (saved_projects_keep_no_layer_tokens covers key stripping), map.removeTiles / layer.remove parameter handling, the tile add path (tiles::add only trims the URL, and dated templates are stored filled, which template_matches accepts), and the ServiceConn literals (all set added). The existing service_group.rs already stores a service address as dataset.source, so the new marking follows a pattern in the codebase.

Bugs

  • None confirmed.
  • Limitation: layers added before this change keep their file-name source, so Add From Service still offers Add for them. Confidence high. Inline comment on service.rs:246.

Security

  • None. Keys are stripped on save, copy, the details pane and the AI Assistant's layer info. The Data Source pane reduces web sources to host and database, so keyed URLs do not appear there.

Performance

  • Minor: matching_rows runs again on each cache miss in refresh_added (dialogs.rs:814), and add_service still filters every frame as before. Not a regression. Caching the shown indices alongside added would remove the duplicate.

Quality

  • Nit: ServiceConn.added spells out (&'static str, Value) instead of using service_added::Removal. Inline comment with a suggestion on lib.rs:357. Confidence high.
  • Behaviour change: Data Source grouping and Copy Path now use the web address for service downloads. Looks intended; worth confirming. Included in the service.rs:246 comment. Confidence medium.
  • Test gap: the dialog tests cover tile and feature rows, but not the WCS coverage Remove path. Confidence medium.

AGENTS.md

  • Adherence looks good. No unwrap/expect in non-test code, the new strings use tl! / i18n::fmt, the layering is respected, and redact is already used in wasm-built code.
  • Low confidence: this changes a visible dialog row and the PR has no screenshot. It calls the change small, so this may be fine.

Code review

Bugs

  • claim_tilesets (crates/engine/src/cmd/service_added.rs:90) claims a tile layer for an OGC API row by host and path prefix alone. A hand-added tile layer under the same tileset list could be claimed, so Remove would delete it. Confidence ~30%.

Security

  • No issues found. The keyed URL that mark_service_source stores in dataset.source is stripped on project save (strip_addresses), shown as host only in the Layers pane, and redacted by layer.copyPath and Details. The new copy-path test covers that path.

Performance

  • No issues found. refresh_added caches by session revision and filter, so the listing is not rescanned every frame.

Quality

  • Grouped OGC feature rows (dialogs.rs:1043) get neither Add nor Remove, so an Import All collection shows nothing in this dialog and cannot be removed here. Confidence ~55%.
  • The PR description says feature and coverage layers are matched "by the title/source". The code matches by source only, and the docs describe it that way. The description should be corrected.
  • Removing a feature layer deletes any edits the user made to it, with no confirmation. It is undoable. Confidence ~40%.

AGENTS.md

  • Checked and compliant: no unwrap/expect/unsafe in non-test code, user-visible strings use tl! and i18n::fmt, the command runs through app.run and the dialog does not open dialogs, no new dependencies, and the layering is respected.

Checked and found correct: template_matches, from_address, coverage_id, the exact-then-keyless matching order, and the map.removeTiles index semantics (the same index as list/find).

The panes.rs comment failed because layer_source isn't on a changed line, so GitHub can't anchor it. I'll report that finding in the summary instead. Writing the final review now.

Code review

I reviewed the diff and the surrounding code by reading it. I could not build or run the tests in this environment, so the PR's test claims are unverified here.

Bugs

  • Coverage layers don't group under the service host (~75%). layer_source in crates/ui-egui/src/panes.rs:987-989 prefers a raster's file_name over dataset.source. A WCS coverage is built by RasterLayer::from_bytes(r, "{name}.tif", …), so it groups under Soil carbon.tif, not the host. The PR body and docs/user-guide/data-formats.md both claim host grouping. Fix: prefer a :// address in layer_source, or narrow the claim. This line is outside the diff, so I could not inline-comment it.
  • Shared tileset lists leave tile layers unclaimed (~50%). In crates/engine/src/cmd/service_added.rs:86, under counts duplicate rows. Two tile matrix sets of one collection share a tileset list and get refused, so Add is still shown. This fails safe (no wrong removal). The test a_tileset_is_claimed_only_under_one_list uses identical rows and doesn't cover it. (Inline comment posted.)

Security

  • No new issues found. dataset.source now holds keyed service URLs in memory, but save goes through strip_addresses, and the Copy Path, details pane, layer.info and Data Source paths all call redact. The Data Source view shows only the host. Non-test code has no unwrap, expect or indexing on the new paths.

Performance

  • Low: claim_tilesets is O(tiles × listed rows) and runs on every revision change while the dialog is open. The cache keeps this off the per-frame path. It only matters for very large listings.

Quality

  • Nit, out of scope: the labelled_by accessibility change in dialogs.rs is unrelated to Remove. Split it out or note it. (Inline comment posted.)
  • Nit: the three kittest flows repeat the same harness-builder block. A helper would shorten them.

AGENTS.md

  • The PR adds visible labels ("Remove", "On the map") and claims kittest is enough. AGENTS.md asks for the rendered UI to be checked as a PNG for UI work. Low confidence this matters, since the change is one button.
  • No unwrap/expect/panic in non-test code. New strings use tl! and i18n::fmt. Docs are updated. The layering is respected. Wasm-compatible code is kept.

Confidence: Read-only review. The stated test results are unverified.

Code review

I reviewed the full diff against the base and read the surrounding code it depends on. Two inline comments are posted, both on crates/engine/src/cmd/service_added.rs. Nothing else rose to a finding.

Bugs

  • Tile keyless fallback is inconsistent with features. service_added.rs:63 compares against the raw tile URL, which keeps its key in-session, so a copy of the same service under another key shows Add and gets duplicated. Suggested one-line fix in the comment. Confidence: medium.
  • claim_tilesets seeds its claimed set only from the rows asked about, so a tile matched by a hidden row can be claimed by an OGC row. This contradicts the doc comment ("no row matched by its own template"). Confidence: low. Posted at service_added.rs:78.

Security

  • No issues found. Saved projects strip addresses (strip_addresses → saved_address). layer.info and copyPath redact. The Layers pane shows only the host for web sources (source_name). The key-bearing URL in dataset.source does not leak through any path I checked.

Performance

  • No issues found. The ServiceAdded cache is keyed on session.revision, which is bumped after every Session::run, so the cache is correct for command-driven changes. Recomputation is per change, not per frame, and the work is bounded by the 500-row cap plus map layer and tile counts.

Quality

  • service_added.rs lives under cmd/ but holds no CommandSpec. It is a helper module, so this is a naming/placement nit. Confidence: low.
  • dialogs.rs:812 allocates let none = Vec::new(); on each recompute where a slice literal would do. Nit.

AGENTS.md

  • No unwrap/expect/panic/indexing in non-test code. Interface strings use tl! and i18n::fmt. Layering holds (ui-egui → engine, and the engine's helper uses only L2 map). Docs are updated.
  • The PR skips screenshots because there is no layout change. The new Remove and On the map labels are user-visible, so a before/after screenshot would be in line with the guideline for substantial visible changes. Confidence: low.

Change size

Compared with main (merge base 8294f56 to PR head 46b874f), the whole PR.

Any query on the /wfs endpoint passes that check, including a GetCapabilities request or a request for a different layer. The importer stores the downloaded request as the layer source, so a regression that stores the wrong request would not fail this test.

Replace the prefix check with a comparison of parsed query parameters. Parse the stored source as a URL and decode each query value. Assert that SERVICE, VERSION, REQUEST, and TYPENAME match the listed GetFeature address. Take the expected TYPENAME from the listed layer name, so the full value is compared, not a prefix. Ignore only the BBOX parameter that the area query adds. Do not use a prefix that ends inside the TYPENAME value, and do not use contains("munic"). Both accept a different type name or unrelated text.

2385-2390: Trivial · Maintainability & Code Quality · Quick win

Add a real raster case to the coverage matcher tests.

The coverage Remove test at crates/ui-egui/src/dialogs.rs:2385-2390 uses a feature layer and sets its GetCoverage source by hand. The coverage arm of the matcher checks the source address and COVERAGEID, not the layer kind. A change that excludes raster layers from this match would still pass the UI test. No inspected test runs the matcher on a real raster. The engine test at crates/engine/src/tests.rs:10240-10243 adds a real raster but does not call the matcher.

Add a unit test to the service_added.rs test module. That module already calls the matcher directly. Load a real raster with raster::add_named_bytes (crates/engine/src/cmd/raster.rs:480, pub(crate)), or with the same service.add path the engine test uses. Call the matcher on the coverage row for that coverage id. Assert that it returns layer.remove with the raster's layer id.

Add From Service's coverage downloads keep their GetCoverage request as the layer's source, but the Data Source view preferred the download's file name (coverage.tif). Prefer a web or database address over a raster's file name, as the docs and the feature layers already say, keep a layer with no raster on its dataset source, and leave local files grouped by their path.
An OGC API tilesets link may end with a slash; the listed tile's address is then under the same list without it. Treat the trailing slash as part of the same path, so the row offers Remove instead of Add.

Quality (nit, scope): this labelled_by accessibility change for the group name field isn't part of Add From Service's Remove. Also the app_harness test refactor further down. Consider splitting them into a separate PR so this one stays reviewable.

Design question (confidence: medium): when no layer matches the listed address exactly, this keyless fallback removes a same-service layer that was added under a different key. The row shows Remove and the click deletes that other layer. The doc comments say this is intentional and the test the_exact_address_wins_over_the_keyless_one covers it. Worth confirming that users expect a Remove to take another key's copy.

// Import All adds these as one group: the row says whether its
// collection is in it; the child is removed in the Layers pane.

AGENTS.md (confidence: medium): AGENTS asks that UI work be checked by rendering the changed UI and looking at the PNG. This PR adds a visible "On the map" label and swaps Add for Remove, but the description relies on kittest assertions and says no screenshot is needed. Please attach a before/after headless screenshot from ui_shot, as the attachment guidance suggests.

Code review

I found no correctness bugs in the changed code. Three inline comments cover the remaining items: one scope nit, one design question, and one missing screenshot.

Bugs

  • None found. I checked that refresh_added is invalidated on every run() (which bumps session.revision) and on listing replacement, and that no UI code mutates map membership outside run(). Also checked: url is a dev-dependency only, so the wasm build is unaffected; project saves strip credentials via saved_address; source_name labels contain host and database only; and from_area accepts exactly the keys features_in_area appends.

Security

  • None found. Service URLs now sit in dataset.source, but the paths that expose it redact it: project save (saved_address), layer.info (sent to the AI Assistant), copyPath, the Layers details pane, and the undo history.

Performance

  • Negligible. Recomputation runs only when the revision or filter changes. tile_match runs once in removal and again in claim_tilesets, which is harmless at realistic listing sizes.

Quality

  • The labelled_by change and the app_harness refactor are unrelated to Remove (inline comment on dialogs.rs:1000).

AGENTS.md

  • No screenshot for a visible UI change (inline comment on dialogs.rs:1047).
  • The keyless fallback in service_added.rs:50 is a design question, not a rule violation (inline comment).
  • Otherwise the change follows the rules: no unwrap in non-test code, interface strings wrapped in tl!/i18n::fmt, and every ServiceConn literal sets added.

Confidence: high for the findings above. I did not build or run the tests (no build tool available here), so compile correctness rests on reading the code and on the PR's reported test results.

Nitpick Assert the exact BBOX value in the stored layer source.

10123-10123: Trivial · Functional Correctness · Quick win

Assert the exact BBOX value in the stored layer source.

The new check at line 10123 confirms only that BBOX is present in dataset.source. A stored address with a wrong box value passes this check. The request assertion at line 10134 checks the box on the outgoing request, not on the stored address, so it does not cover this path. Assert the exact value here:

Suggested fix

+        query.get("BBOX").map(String::as_str),

Update the BBOX check in the stored layer source assertion to verify that the
value equals the expected bounding box, rather than only checking that the key
exists; retain the source context in the assertion message.

Stop claiming hand-added tiles under an advertised OGC tile prefix.

An unmatched OGC API row claims any tile whose address starts with its tile matrix set prefix. A hand-added tile such as .../WebMercatorQuad/custom/{z}/{y}/{x}.png is claimed. The row then shows Remove, and clicking it deletes that tile. Require the tile's remainder to match the row's advertised template. The existing .png test in a_tileset_is_claimed_by_one_row_of_a_collection must still pass.

Update the tile-claiming predicate in the OGC API row matching logic so a
matching tile-matrix-set prefix alone is insufficient: require the remainder of
the tile address to match the row’s advertised template before claiming the
tile. Preserve the existing `.png` behavior verified by
