Hand off an ended session from the desktop app - #2205
An ended server session's read-only notice becomes a hand-off composer: it shows where the new session will start and whether the old session's work is all there, reuses the launcher's agent, model, effort and permission chips (extracted into LaunchChipsView), and starts a hand-off only when both the server (GetLaunchFeatures) and the local daemon list handoff/1. A refused launch, immediate or delayed, gives the typed text, attachments and chip choices back in the source session with the reason. The new session shows a card of what its takeover carried over. Stacked on #2204, which this branch contains.
Where to look
HandoffComposerViewModel and HandoffDrafts: a launch failure never reads as success, and a draft is taken back exactly once whether its composer is live, gone, or reopened. Not covered yet: a hosted agent whose local row ends Failed hides its ended server row, so it can't be handed off from there.
Verification
View-model tests drive eligibility and every disabled reason, each strip-label shape, the fork and same-repository target mapping, an immediate refusal, a delayed failure before and after StartAsync returns, a composer disposed mid-launch, and a source the directory no longer lists. Smoke tests type into the box and click Start, drop a file onto the card, check Enter never launches (fails with an Enter handler added), and open the agent chip's flyout. App unit suite green; dotnet build Capacitor.slnx clean; AOT publish shows no IL warnings. Not run against a live server: the server half (kurrent-io/kcap-server#2867) is not deployed yet.
Only slice 1's target validation is invalid_target; credentials in the
detail are stripped and a 50 s deadline answers before the client's 60 s.

An interrupted takeover returns what it carried rather than throwing, so the
hand-off outcome can name each item it never confirmed.

A launch shape the probe never resolved refuses its hand-off block rather than
ignoring it, and the checkout's origin is re-checked so the app's pick carries no authority.

With an empty box the launch prompt is all hand-off boilerplate, so a title cut
from it would read the same for every hand-off.

A failed renewal cancels the run at once: past that point the server may have
handed the source to another successor.

A branch name git accepts can still carry shell syntax, and the prompt tells
the agent to push the way the data block says.

A server that relays a hand-off has the begin method, so only the hub's own
missing-method reply means unsupported; any other failure is a dropped hub.

Shutdown waits up to 5 s for in-flight takeovers before the hub goes, so a
finished run is stored and every run ends its lease.

Begin records the continuation on the server, so the local check has to come
first or the source reads as continued by a successor that carried nothing.

The hub's GetLaunchFeatures and the handoff-context read are the app's gate for offering a hand-off.

Every declare asks to become primary and outranks one an agent chose, so
re-declaring an attached item would take primary back from the successor.

Continue polling resumable interrupted outcomes
When the daemon restarts during a takeover, HandoffOutcomeStore converts the persisted running outcome to interrupted, but StartHandoffTakeover may later resume that same successor and replace the outcome with running and then done. This unconditional break treats the intermediate interrupted state as terminal, so a watcher that reads it first permanently leaves the card saying the hand-off was cut short even after the resumed takeover completes; keep polling this resumable state.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Reject daemons connected to another server
When the local daemon is attached to a different server/profile, its IPC status can still be Connected with handoff/1, while _serverConnected describes the app's current server. This branch therefore enables hand-off even though the subsequent launch addresses _daemon.DaemonName through the current server, which cannot reach that foreign daemon and can only fail (or target a same-named daemon there). The ordinary launcher explicitly compares Daemon.ServerUrl with the app server for this supported configuration; the hand-off eligibility check needs the same identity gate.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Disable hand-off when no harness is available
When a hand-off-capable daemon advertises an empty supported-vendor list, every option is unavailable and this fallback still selects DefaultVendor. HandoffComposerViewModel gates Start only on the probe and disabled reason, not on the selected harness's availability, so the composer presents an enabled Start button that sends a launch the daemon cannot host. Preserve an explicit no-available-harness state and use it to disable the launch with an actionable reason.

Constrain the outcome note so it can wrap
At narrow window widths, this horizontal StackPanel measures the note text with unbounded horizontal space, so TextWrapping="Wrap" does not constrain long built-in messages such as the sign-in and source-active explanations. The card can consequently overflow or clip its most important failure guidance; use a two-column Grid (icon Auto, text *) or another width-constraining container.
An adoption makes its plan current as a declare makes its item primary, so a
rerun skips plans the successor already joined, and writes nothing when it
cannot read what the successor holds.

Preserve edits made while the launch is pending
When the launch invocation is slow and the user edits the prompt or stages another attachment after pressing Start, this unconditionally clears the current text and entire tray on success, even though the launch sent the earlier snapshot in draft. This also loses those new edits when navigation changed during the invocation and the successor is therefore not auto-opened; clear only the captured text/files when they are still unchanged, as the ordinary launcher does.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Trigger sign-in recovery after unauthorized uploads
When attachments are staged and the HTTP upload returns Unauthorized while the SignalR lane remains connected, this only renders “sign in to attach files”; _signedIn remains true, attachments remain enabled, and no sign-in recovery state is exposed. The ordinary launcher explicitly sets _signInRequired for the same upload outcome, so this path should likewise park the lane or otherwise surface the sign-in action instead of leaving retries to repeat the 401.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Retry outcome discovery after a capable daemon reconnects
When the workspace opens while the first connected daemon lacks handoff/1, Take(1) consumes that status and the empty branch completes the watcher permanently. Updating or restarting the daemon with hand-off support therefore never reads its persisted outcome, so the continuation card remains absent until the workspace is recreated; keep observing connection/capability transitions until a capable daemon is available.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Trigger sign-in recovery after unauthorized launches
When the launch invocation returns Unauthorized while the lane still reports Connected, this only renders the sign-in message and immediately reevaluates. Because _serverConnected remains true and the feature/context caches are still valid, reevaluation restores ProbedStart, and StartCommand becomes enabled again without exposing the application's sign-in recovery path; repeated attempts therefore keep failing with the same 401. Propagate this outcome to the lane or a sign-in-required state as the ordinary launcher does.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Notify composers when storing a post-disposal failure
If the user navigates away during an upload or launch and reopens the source before that operation fails, the new composer can finish InitializeAsync before this method stores the draft. HoldFailed updates the dictionary without publishing FailedFor, so that already-open composer never takes the returned message or attachments; they remain hidden until the workspace is recreated again. Emit the same source-session notification used by delayed launch failures after storing the draft.
The last declare becomes primary and the last adoption current, so an earlier
write that failed and is retried would take either from the one made after it.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The listing puts the most recently touched plan first and an adoption touches its plan, so a rerun would read a different order than the run it resumes.

Consume accepted launches with unusable IDs
When the server accepts a hand-off but returns a null or non-normalizable AgentId, this branch reports that the session launched but leaves the submitted text and attachments intact. After finally clears IsLaunching, the existing ProbedStart also re-enables Start, so retrying the apparently retained draft can create a duplicate successor and repeat the takeover. Treat the accepted launch as spent before returning, as the ordinary launcher does.
The source still in the entry is what marks a takeover unsettled: an outcome can be missing before the first run stored one, or after the store evicted it.

The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Invalidate stale context after source refusal
When the source is deleted or the user's access changes after the initial context read, the launch can return handoff_source_unavailable. This branch immediately reevaluates without clearing _context, so EvaluateAsync skips the context endpoint and rebuilds an enabled ProbedStart from the stale data; subsequent clicks repeatedly submit launches that the server must refuse. Clear the cached context before reevaluating, or retain this refusal as a disabled state.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Recheck attachment support after uploading
When an attachment upload is slow and the local daemon reconnects or is downgraded without the attachment capability during the upload, CanAttach becomes false but this path proceeds directly to the launch with the uploaded IDs. The request is therefore submitted to a target the composer now knows cannot accept those attachments, potentially failing only after the upload; rerun CanAttachTo against the captured draft after the upload, as the ordinary launcher does.
The reason will be displayed to describe this comment to others. Learn more.
Retry failed-draft delivery after the current launch
When an accepted hand-off fails while the user is already starting another hand-off from the same still-open source—for example, after a navigation-generation change prevented the first launch from auto-opening—FailedFor reaches this method while IsLaunching is true. It returns before consuming the stored draft, and nothing retries delivery when the current launch finishes, so the first message remains hidden until the composer is recreated even though the failure notice can say it is back in the session.
A restart reads the stored running as interrupted, which only the source left in the resume entry can finish.

Constrain the completeness warning so it can wrap
At narrow window widths, this horizontal StackPanel measures the warning text with unbounded horizontal space, so the TextWrapping="Wrap" setting does not constrain messages such as the partly-missing-work warning. The hand-off card can consequently overflow or clip the warning; use a two-column Grid (icon Auto, text *) or another width-constraining container.

Constrain outcome rows so labels can wrap
When a carried-over item has a long server-supplied label or the window is narrow, this horizontal StackPanel measures the row's TextBlock with unbounded horizontal space, so TextWrapping="Wrap" never receives a finite width and the outcome row overflows or clips. Use a two-column Grid or another container that constrains the label to the available width.

Try another matching checkout after a probe refusal
When the machine has multiple clones of the source repository and the first candidate is outside the daemon's AllowedRepoPaths, FindAsync commits the evaluation to that one path; the subsequent RepoNotAllowed response disables hand-off without considering later matching candidates. This can block the launch even though a permitted checkout is already present in the remembered, known, or agent-root candidates, so matching paths should be tried until one passes the daemon probe.
The test only asserts card.Bounds.Height < 260 and transcript.Bounds.Height > 150. These are Avalonia layout measurements. They are not a real view interaction such as focus, keyboard or pointer routing, flyouts, or accessibility peers.
Delete the test, or cover the behavior through an interaction. Keep the data-projection checks in HandoffOutcomeViewModelTests.

Notify the server lane when a handoff-context read returns unauthorized.
If the context GET returns HTTP 401, ServerSearchHttp.GetAsync returns Unauthorized. This method passes that result through without calling _onUnauthorized. HandoffComposerViewModel.EvaluateAsync then shows a generic context error instead of the sign-in state. Capture the lane epoch before the read and notify _onUnauthorized for an unauthorized result, as the listing read does. (raw.githubusercontent.com)

Re-read the server's launch features after a reconnect.
_features is cached as soon as a read returns a non-empty set. Assume a reachable server answers with features that do not include handoff/1. The composer then shows ServerTooOld for the rest of its life. The reconnect subscription (lines 114-120) runs ReevaluateAsync, but EvaluateAsync skips the read because _features is { Count: > 0 }. If the server is upgraded and the lane reconnects while the composer is open, the composer still reports "too old". The user must close and reopen the session to recover. This matters now because the server half is not deployed yet. Clear the cache when the lane reconnects.
