Declare PyTorch 2.4 for RelayVSR.
pyproject.toml allows torch>=2.1, but compile.py uses torch.library.custom_op and .register_fake during import. These APIs require the PyTorch 2.4 custom-operator API. Because weights.py imports compile.py, RelayVSR can fail to import with PyTorch 2.1–2.3.
Raise the project minimum to PyTorch 2.4, or enforce a RelayVSR-specific requirement before importing RelayVSR. Unrelated runners remain unaffected because runner_factory.py imports only the selected runner.

Check sequence-parallel size against Flash and Wan head counts.
The SP preset uses two ranks, but SequenceParallel derives its size from the process group. An unsupported group size can therefore reach inference. FlashTransformerInfer uses two KV heads, and all2all_seq2head requires the head count to divide evenly across the group. Add this validation during model loading.

Restrict the output suffix to MP4, or the saved file has the wrong container.
mkstemp reuses destination.suffix, so AsyncVideoWriter picks the container from that suffix. For a .mkv or .mov destination, it writes that container.
mux_audio_from_video then always rewrites the file as MP4 (-f mp4, -movflags +faststart) into <temporary>.tmp.mp4. It finally calls os.replace(tmp_path, output_path). The final file keeps the original suffix but holds MP4 data.
Suffixes such as .avi or .webm can also fail in the HEVC encoder or the mux step. Because of this, container-specific flags and the output suffix must match.
Reject unsupported suffixes before decoding starts.

source, destination = Path(input_info.video_path), Path(input_info.save_result_path) if source.resolve() == destination.resolve(): raise ValueError("RelayVSR output must differ from its source video") + if destination.suffix.lower() not in ("", ".mp4"): + raise ValueError("RelayVSR video output supports the .mp4 container only")
Based on learnings: container-specific ffmpeg flags such as MP4 -movflags faststart must only apply when the output container matches.

Set the CUDA device in the decode worker thread.
frame() runs on the relayvsr-decode worker thread. The runner selects its device with torch.cuda.current_device() on the main thread. A new thread starts with the default device (cuda:0) instead of that device.
On rank 1 of a seq_p_size=2 run, pin_memory() can therefore create an extra CUDA context on GPU 0. This costs GPU 0 memory and can cause OOM on a tight GPU.
Capture the device in the main thread. Enter it inside the worker.

Make the launcher default match both guides.
This line selects relayvsr.json, which disables compilation and warmup. Both scripts/relayvsr/README.md (Line 47) and scripts/relayvsr/README_zh.md (Line 45) say the example script selects relayvsr_compile.json. Select the compile preset here, or correct both guides if eager execution is the intended default.

Do not document an unauthenticated public bind.
The task route has no authentication dependency. It accepts server-local video_path and save_result_path values. RelayVSR opens the submitted input path and replaces the submitted writable output path. Absolute output paths are not restricted to the service output directory.
Bind the example to 127.0.0.1, or document the required authenticated reverse proxy and path sandbox. Apply the same correction to README_zh.md.
