Summary

  • Add the install/build steps required before configuring the local node .../build/index.js entry point. A fresh clone has no build/index.js, so following the current clone-and-configure instructions fails with MODULE_NOT_FOUND.
  • Correct the deep-research parameter reference: output_format is not exposed by the tool schema or handled by the server, and both text and dropdown arguments return MCP text content. Document the existing force_model parameter instead.

No production-code or provider behavior changes.

Validation

  • npm ci, npm run build, npm test, and git diff --check passed on Windows with Node 24.14.1.
  • Confirmed both documentation discrepancies at the base revision and checked the corrected instructions against the built entry point/tool schema.
  • Exercised the actual stdio MCP entry point (initialize, tools/list, tools/call) using local SDK response fixtures and dummy keys, including argument/model/request and response mapping, configuration precedence, citations and errors (100 checks).
  • No real Perplexity API requests were made; fixtures do not establish live research or answer quality. Docker, NPX registry execution and the Node 18/20/22 CI matrix were not run locally.
